BABY SISTER PATTY WILL PROVIDE THE SECOND COURSE OF THE FEAST

Maxene did not let the unfortunate incident with her sisters affect her relationship with her new husband and his tribe.  She enjoyed thirteen wonderful years until that fateful day in 1923 when Maxene suggested that the chief honor a visiting Irish sea captain with an authentic Irish stew.

On her way to the stew pot, Maxene handed her diary to the sea captain.  The last entry read:

      April 14, 1923

I should have kept my big mouth shut, but I thought everyone knew that you make Irish stew with lamb.

One of the crew took the picture below as Maxene McGuffy simmered along with half a cup of salt; 2 tablespoons of pepper; some bay leaves; 50 medium carrots, sliced; 50 small onions, thinly sliced; and 100 medium potatoes, pared & quartered.

The story of Maxene’s life has benefited so many, but none more than the Irish sea captain who, after stuffing himself on stew, sailed for America where he sold the diary to a publisher for $10,000.
